Be the change you want to see in the world.

(Mahatma Gandhi)

Dear OSMA friends, colleagues, followers,

Our thoughts tend easily to wander, particularly at a time when we’ve all been doing our best to thrive through pandemics, lockdowns, and prevention measures, seeking the light at the end of the tunnel. Which we can actually see, getting steadily brighter.

One of the terms that have frequently appeared in the wider political and social landscape has been discussed at various world forums, and become a fundament premise of various future development programs, is sustainability and sustainable development. What is sustainability? There are many different definitions, mainly in line with the speaker’s interests, but basically, it’s a development that “meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” Sustainability relates to all human activities, including economics, the environment, and society (profit, planet, people) and it challenges the present status-quo, thinking differently and improving sustainable approaches. The concept of sustainability has been around for a while but recent surveys on its implementation are not very encouraging. We must do much better in raising awareness of the true meaning of sustainable development by catalyzing the creation of the just and sustainable society we hope to see.
